Glossary
Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) – A detailed plan encompassing actions, roles, responsibilities, timelines, and success criteria for the next 12 months.
Learning Goal – A learning goal identifies the purpose and learning outcome for a particular lesson(s).
Success Criteria – A success criterion outlines the skills and knowledge students need to implement to achieve the learning goal.
Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) and Professional Learning Community (PLC) – Groups of teachers work collaboratively at the school level to improve student outcomes. At NMPS, year level teachers work in Professional Learning Teams. Each team is guaranteed more than 100 minutes per week to work in PLTs. As a whole staff, teachers work collaboratively in the Professional Learning Community once a week. The focus of these PLCs are to build teacher capacity to achieve better results for our students, through professional dialogue, research, instructional videos, and presenters.
VTLM2.0 – Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0. The state-wide model that defines the Elements of Learning and the Elements of Teaching. The VTLM2.0 provides our school with a clear and united way to continue to work together to build the professional capabilities of our teachers and improve the learning experiences and standards of our students.
Teaching and Learning Cycle – The teaching and learning cycle is a professional development process in which teachers collaboratively plan and implement lessons based on student data. At NMPS our Teaching and Learning Cycle is based on Richard DuFour’s research and based on the following questions:
- How will we increase our professional knowledge and practice to meet the needs of our students?
- What do we expect our students to know?
- How will we plan for our students learning?
- What is the evidence of their learning and what does this tell us?
- Where are our students in their learning now?

Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum (GVC) – A Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum ensures that all students have an equal opportunity to learn. Each student will have access to an effective or highly effective teacher, and access to the same content, knowledge, and skills in each section or class (Marzano, 2003).
Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS) – eight proactive strategies used by teachers to maintain a positive, supportive and purposeful learning community within classrooms.
School-Wide Positive Behaviour Supports (SWPBS) – the whole school system, including routines, defined expectations, acknowledgements and responses that support students to learn positive behaviours for learning and socialising. Our School Values and Positive Behaviours Expectations matrix define our aspirations for all NMPS students.
