The internet offers an exciting world of experiences for children and the whole family. It can be entertaining, educational and rewarding. However, using the internet also involves risks and challenges.

For many parents, this will be the first time their child has access to an Internet capable device. You play a vital role in ensuring your child has safe and positive experiences online.

The following simple tips can protect your child at home:

  • Create your own guidelines for use of technology at home. One of the simplest ways of keeping your child safe is by allowing internet use in shared spaces at home and restricting use in areas without adult supervision (e.g bedrooms).
  • Make your home internet safe: Set up child friendly internet searching through your Router or Internet Service Provider to block inappropriate content.
  • Ensuring that your child is not using Social Media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Messenger, SnapChat (these sites have minimum age restrictions of at least 13+ years).
  • Manage your child’s device at home. This can be a simple process if you set up “Screen Time”. We recommend all parents set up Screen time on their child’s devices. Click here for instructions on how to use this.
