Asthma, Anaphylaxis and other medical conditions Parents Information Session

InfoNightAthsma

The Asthma Foundation has updated the requirements for Victorian Schools to use new Asthma Action Plan templates. This is to streamline all Action Plans to one single format to make it easier on school’s to follow and administer medical treatment.

As part of North Melbourne Primary School’s commitment to meeting our legislative requirements and the School's Policy, we require you to provide us with a new Asthma Action Plan for your child/ren using the template provided.

We have attached for you the link to the new Asthma Action Plan for Victorians Schools, which has been specifically designed for schools to identify asthma signs and symptoms, and respond accordingly using the asthma medication device.

https://www.asthmaaustralia.org.au/vic/about-asthma/resources/victorian-action-plans/victorian-asthma-action-plans

You will need a medical practitioner to complete the new Action Plan prior to the start of the 2017 school year (if you have not yet done this, please do so as soon as possible). Please ask your medical practitioner to download the appropriate Asthma Action Plan for Victorian Schools and fill in the required sections. This will need to be printed in colour and brought in to school along with the medication.

If your medical practitioner, has informed you that your child has grown out of their asthma, please inform the school via email or as a written letter.

Library News

Library Dahl

Kathy, Library

I would like to remind everyone that the Library is open in the mornings on Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Friday  from 8.30am. Students are able to return or borrow books.

Last year many books went missing. Could Parents please assist the students in having a look at home for any school library books and bring them back. Also many of the books sent home for the “Summer Reading Trial” have not been returned.

The Premiers’ Reading Challenge is on again this year. If students were involved last year their login details remain the same. Books can be entered now but the Challenge doesn’t officially commence until March.

I am looking for some parents who would like to assist with covering new books. Please come and see me or email me mitten.kathy.a@edumail.vic.gov.au any time.

Biz - E - Kidz

Welcome back!

On behalf of everyone at Biz – E Kidz we hope everyone had a great summer holiday and would like to extend our welcome back to another school year.

3-Program aftercare
To assist with the safe transition of Foundation students and the continued success of the Junior and senior aftercare programs, Biz - E - Kidz is now running 3 separate aftercare programs; A seniors, Juniors and Foundation programs. Before school care and the holiday programs will still both operate from the Biz – E – Kidz building.

The Aftercare programs will operate as follows:
Seniors: For Years 4, 5 and 6, this program operates from the FLEX on the south side of the school. Tailored for older children, in addition to the usual activities of games, craft and outside play, this program will provide space for homework and special tech time. Children will also have daily opportunities to go northside and use the grassketball courts and join the juniors for cooking.
Juniors: For Years 1, 2 and 3, the Juniors program operates from the Biz – E - Kidz building on the north side of the school. The largest of the programs, the Juniors program has daily craft, cooking, games and other activities planned in addition to free access to sport, craft, imaginative and manipulative play equipment.
Foundation Program: Designed to assist the foundation students in transitioning safely to Outside of School Hours care with a higher staff to child ratio, and routines, spaces, programs and equipment specifically aimed at foundation students. Outside school hours care is a much different environment to what children are used to at childcare or kindergarten. As children develop they require more choice, challenges, independence and space in a stimulating yet supportive, safe and predictable environment. The Foundation aftercare program is designed to facilitate this transition.
The foundation program will operate from Room 8 on the east side of the old building, near the Art room.
To facilitate the adequate supervision of this additional program,  the current Assistant coordinators (Ace, Eva and Kelly) will be joined by occasional acting assistant coordinators; Amanda, Georgie and Libby, who will predominately be in charge of Senior sessions.

We anticipate that the Foundation students will be ready and eager to join the Juniors at around midyear. At this point, the grade 3s will join the Seniors. more information will be available in term 2.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about anything Biz – E Kids or childcare related on the details below.
