Message from Sally
Hello and welcome to our 2017 school year.
For those interested in the Chinese horoscope, 2017 is the year of the Rooster and is said to be a year dominated by the orientation towards progress, honour and maximum integrity and where people learn to temper their ardour. These aspirations give me cause to remind you that at North Melbourne Primary School we value being: Responsible, Inclusive, Sagacious and Ethical and that our values are underpinned by the following beliefs and practices:
• All children can learn
• Learning outcomes will be maximised when children feel safe, connected and engaged at school
• Students are encouraged to be active and self-directed in their learning
• Our school values are reflected in all we do

Katie Kilner and Chris Egan will be on leave and won’t be working with us this year nor will Jenny Ramsay who has secured a full-time position in the East nearer to her home. Anna Ganz has retired. Megan Tynan from the SAKGP has also taken on a full time supervisory role at her other workplace.

Come and see what it’s like to learn in our wonderful learning spaces; ‘The sense of community that open plan classrooms create will be leveraged to encourage conversation, co-operation and collaboration.’ Dr Craig Deed is Associate Professor in Education in the Department of Education, La Trobe University.
Teachers will be sending out welcome letters and term plans electronically in the next week. These will be available in hard copy on the night, along with our 2017 Planner. Curriculum overviews can also be viewed on our school website.
Talking Spaces 7 Conference
This Thursday and Friday staff will attend the Talking Spaces 7 Conference at Melbourne University. Talking Spaces 7 will explore the key issues intersecting the design and use of learning environments. How do we create and effectively utilize new spaces for learning? How do we imagine the complexity connecting educational intentions, practices, spaces and people? What formal and informal ‘evaluative’ knowledge can we bring to bear on these issues? Through a mix of shared and concurrent sessions, Talking Spaces 7 invites participants to share their experience and knowledge in cross-disciplinary conversations about the changing face of learning and learning environments
Enjoy the excitement that the new year brings.
